The Last Remnant’s presentation is also a mixed bag; it’s a beauty and pushes the Unreal Engine 3 to its limits; there are epic “Lord of the Rings” type battles with over 70 characters on screen at one time. But this creates a great deal of confusion, as the character models blend together. Given the mere two-hour span of the story mode, I was a little disappointed by this the first time, thinking that I’d have no motivation to replay this game ever. Turns out that beating the game on Normal unlocks the Hard mode, of course Read the rest of this entry »

SoulCalibur was famous for its blisteringly fast frame rate and its gorgeous character models. With a frame rate of sixty frames per second, for once, 3D fighting games actually eclipsed their 2D counterparts. No longer did players have to witness slow animations and blocky polygons. Instead, they could play as characters who swung their weapons with ferocity. Dead Space draws inspiration from a variety of sources but its most obvious reference point is the movie Aliens. The simple yet effective story centers on a three-man crew of space engineers who are sent to investigate a distress signal aboard the USG Ishimura, an enormous mining vessel capable of harvesting entire planets for resources.
